Standing Before a Picture

There are maiden faces
like those the Dutch Masters saw
still waiting to be found
in plain rooms and at corners,
hidden and in open spaces
but no eye ever sees them.

Will they be found one day
to be cherished and admired
when someone chances upon
lifts them from their everyday existence
and throws a frame around them
and we can stand before them
and discover there the silent beauty
we saw framed once before
on a museum wall?
