Corinna

Wir sahn dich im geschwisterlichen Reigen
Voll Anmut, Blume unter Blumen, schweben,
Im Laecheln bluehete die Seele dir,
Ganz eines mit der sichtbaren Gestalt
— Sie wusst es nicht —, heraus aufs Angesicht
Unschuldge Freude, dem Beschauer fast
So innig fuehlbar wie der Taenzerin!

O wessen ganzes Sein und Leben doch
Sich so bewegte durch des Jahres Kreis
In holdem Gleichmass jeglichen Moment,
Sich selber so zu seliger Genuege
Und alle Welt zu letzen, zu erbaun!

Eduard Moerike 1865

Corinna

We saw you dancing the round with your sisters
Gracefully swaying, a flower among flowers,
In your smile your soul blossomed,
How one with your body it was
— You were unaware — and on your face
Innocent joy, for us looking on almost
As deeply felt as by you the dancer!

O you whose entire being and life
Moved thus through the course of a year,
Every moment in precise balance,
Perfectly satisfied to be yourself
And edifying for all who watched!
